New GR Outdoor Pool Pass Program offering free access to city youth who register by opening day!

Passholders will receive a physical card for scanning at the gate, or an option to have their membership looked up by staff.

The Grand Rapids Department of Parks and Recreation has summer on its mind, as it rolled out a brand new Outdoor Pool Season Pass program on Thursday.

As part of the new initiative, city residents who are 17 years old and younger can get free access to the pools by signing up for the season pass before they open on June 6.

Parents and guardians 18 years and older can register their youth for the free pool access program online here.

“At a time when families are navigating rising living costs, we’re excited to offer a way for Grand Rapids youth to enjoy our city pools at no cost this summer,” said Nicole Braunschneider, aquatics coordinator. “City pools are a summer staple and every child should have the chance to enjoy them. This new season pass makes visits easier and more affordable for parents – with just one low-cost pass, or free if you sign up early, kids can swim all summer at any of our three pools.”

Passholders will receive a physical card for scanning at the gate, or an option to have their membership looked up by staff.

Cards will work at all three city pool locations. They can be picked up at the department’s offices at 245 State Street before pool opening day or at a person’s first visit to the pool.

“Every child deserves access to safe, enriching spaces during the summer and our pools are a vital part of that,” said David Marquardt, director of parks and recreation. “By removing cost barriers and streamlining access, we’re making it easier for all Grand Rapids families to enjoy the benefits of swimming, play and community connection – regardless of income or neighborhood.”

Once the pool opens on June 6, season passes will be available for a fee:

  • Residents: $5 (children), $10 (adults)
  • Nonresidents: $10 (children), $20 (adults)

Daily pool admission rates for the 2025 season will be:

  • Residents: $3 (children), $6 (adults)
  • Nonresidents: $5 (children), $10 (adults)

All three outdoor pools will have the same operating hours:

  • Tuesday through Saturday – Noon to 7 p.m.
  • Sunday – 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Monday – Closed for routine cleaning and maintenance.

Children ages 11 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
