Community

Part of the Foundation’s mission is to encourage the growth of not only ice hockey, but all ice related sports in the West Michigan region.  To that end, the Foundation staff and volunteers, players and families engage in a number of charitable activities:

Try Blind Hockey

This first of its kind event in Michigan brought over 15 individuals of all ages, skating ability and sight impairment out to skate.  Through the help of players, volunteers, staff and local businesses, the Foundation equipped and fitted participants for over an hour and a half of skating and hockey all at no cost to the participants.  We look forward to hosting this event again.

Charitable Cup

Each season, the Foundation calls upon its players and families to contribute to a worthy local charity culminating in tournaments in each division.

Boys and Girls Club Holiday Skate

Over the Christmas break, the Foundation’s generous staff commit their time and effort to open the rink to Boys and Girls Club’s members for a free hour long skate followed by lunch. This event creates opportunities for those who may not have them to enjoy time on the ice.

Blood Drive

Each year the Foundation sponsors a blood drive in partnership with Versiti for parents and staff to help meet our local community’s need for blood.

Rosa Parks Skate Donation

The Foundation works closely with the Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation Department to purchase and donate skates to the city for use at the Rosa Parks Circle Rink in downtown Grand Rapids.

Holland West

One of the newest efforts of the Foundation Board to expand skating opportunities in West Michigan is to support programming at Griff’s Icehouse West and its innovative programming with the Links Program, offered through numerous local school districts.
